Will watched the sun go down, and as the last light died, his father's face began to fade. He'd see it again tomorrow and the day after, as he had every day since his father's death. But one day, an errant wind or even a careless traveler would knock over the stones and that would be the end of Will's small tribute.

By the time they get to the third glass, Tonks is pretty sure this is the worst first date ever. She's tipsy and her giggles are now the sort of snorting laughter that might put Remus off her forever.

To his credit, he doesn't seem to mind much. In fact, he's got a rather adorable smile on his face, and she resists the urge to pull him close and kiss him.

She watches him swish the blood-red liquid around his glass and give it an expert sniff. He says something about wildflowers and anise, but the words are lost on her as she admires the way his hair falls across his forehead.

"Tonks. Are you...quite alright?" Worry creases his brow, and she realizes he's been talking for a while now, but she's been so distracted by his face, she hasn't heard a word.

"Oh, sorry. It's just...I had no idea you were such a wine connoisseur."

Remus chuckles. "Well, let's just say it's one of the few benefits of my...er, condition. I can sniff out a good wine. Among other things."

"Oh? What sort of other things?"

He points to the other end of the restaurant. "The food in the kitchen of this restaurant. The smell of the flowers in that shop across the street." He gives her a grin, sly and knowing. "Pheromones."

"Phero...oh!" Tonks wishes the ground would open up and swallow her, but there's no such respite tonight. "Remus, I--"

He saves her from any further embarrassment when he leans over and kisses her. It's the best first date ever.
