Title: Martin and the Magical Contract
Rating/Warnings: PG-13; possible R for discussion of an occult nature; death
Summary: A magical contract comes across the desk of a London solicitor.

The British headquarters of Cy-Gam are located in a low cinder block edifice in a nondescript industrial park outside London. Huge black letters spell out the company's name on all four sides. Vehicles in various states of repair are scattered through the wide car park and an automated gate swings open to admit through traffic.

A visit to the company's website reveals that Cy-Gam makes sensors for various electronic devices, among other things. The website features an informercial and a page of worldwide contact information.

In short, Cy-Gam is exactly like every other business in the world, except in one important respect.

It does not exist.

The headquarters building is real enough, but the rest is an elaborate lie. The organization behind Cy-Gam has existed as long as memory, and it trades not in goods, but in magic.

There will be more. Eventually, lol.

(Actually, this is what I'm doing for NaNoWriMo this year).

LOL! Awesome! I'd love to read more! :D And also, cute way to do the name of the company: Cy-Gam, or what is essentially magic spelled backwards. ;)

Ooh! Nano-novel! I still haven't decided if I'm going to do that again this year. I have loads of ideas, but it's hard trying to figure out which one to do. LOL!

I actually thought the name was a bit too precious, but this is a draft, so it's all good, yes? ;)

The thing with NaNoWriMo is that I'm never able to do it properly. This time, I'm hoping that if I at least have a concrete outline in mind, I'll actually finish. *fingers crossed*

I actually like the name. It's got a hidden in plain sight vibe to it. :D

I totally understand with nanowrimo. I've won twice, but not since 2005. Every year I attempt it without a solid plan in place, I make it about a week. *sigh* I might try to do a rewrite of my 2005 novel - I told [livejournal.com profile] thymelady about it, and I think that if I don't finish this one, she'll come over with her sword (she really has one! LOL!) and brandish it at me menacingly until I do. LMAO! ;)

If I do decide to do nano this year, want to be writing buddies? :)

Absolutely. When NaNo kicks off, we should try to get together (virtually, of course) for write-ins and such. I'm much more excited about NaNo now than I was even a few days ago, so thanks for that. :)

Definitely! That sounds awesome! I should probably get plotting soon, actually!

And thanks - I'm totally excited now, too! :D

I knew there was something significant about the name Cy-Gam. I couldn't figure it out until [livejournal.com profile] shinysparks said it. I just liked how it sounded. It's so authentically company-ish.

I really love the setting with the first floor parking garage and am rooting for an action scene later. ;) It looks like this will make a great concept to propel a NaNo!

I sure hope so, lol. And I'm terrible at action scenes, so don't hold your breath there.

Thanks! I've had this idea for a while, but I'm not sure how well the execution will go. We'll see. :)

So, solicitors and magical contracts and I'm all enthusiasm even before I read about the setting. Now I'm compelled to type the ff.net chant of approval: Update soon!

LOL. If only each day had more than 24 hours.

My goal is to work on this for NaNo this year. Let's see how far I get. *fingers crossed*

Ooh! I have such a thing about--what to call it? Corporate fantasy? I'd love to see where you're going to take this.
